Leader: Phillip Delve
Start: 11:00 Finish: 15:00
Meet: Benin Road, Perham Down, Wiltshire, SP11 9FQ. GR SU 260484 Landranger 186 / Explorer 131
Directions: From the A338 at Tidworth, turn east into Station Rd. Follow for about 1.5 miles until you reach Perham Down, turn right onto Benin Rd, go past houses and turn left after 400 yds and immediately after the red brick shed partly hidden by trees. A little further you will see the parking area on grass to the left.
Focus: Downland butterflies, hopefully including Silver Spotted Skipper and Chalkhill Blue
Description: A slow walk over uneven, but gently sloping downland. The colony of Silver Spotted Skippers at Warren Hill is one of the easiest places to see these scarce butterflies. Stout footwear is recommended, please bring a packed lunch. If conditions allow we will then relocate a few miles to a site near Sutton Bellinger known for Brown Hairstreaks.
Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their Spring and Summer 2023 newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
