Leaders: Alan Rayner and Helena Crouch
Start: 10:30
Meet: In Forestry England car park off Smitham Hill GR ST 557541 Landranger 182/Explorer 141
Finish: Approx 14:30
Focus: Fungi and other autumn wildlife
Description: Slow walk, looking at fungi and bryophytes in particular, through conifer plantation on the site of former lead mine. Site includes relics of its industrial past, particularly the impressive Smitham Chimney, and there are fine views across the Chew Valley. There are good broad rides which may be muddy, but provide easy access. If we leave the paths, the ground is uneven, so care must be taken. Stout footwear recommended and bring a packed lunch.
