Leader: Alvan White
Start: 10:30
Finish: Fluid
Meet: Picnic Area No. 2 Explorer 155 (ST 578 608). We will leave some cars at Picnic Area 2 and go to Woodford Lodge (ST565 607) with the remainder. Woodford Lodge will be the start of the walk. Return to Woodford Lodge will be by the cars left at Picnic Area 2. (Parking costs £4 for the day.)
See map for location of both Woodford Lodge and Picnic Area number No. 2: www.bristolwaterfisheries.com/lakes/chew-valley-lake/activities
Focus: Birds of the reservoir, plus fungi.
Description: The walk will embrace the northern end of the reservoir and reach its end point at the Bittern Trail. A walk of approximately 2.5 miles, hunting around the lakeside for egrets and herons plus waterbirds, with perhaps some fungi presenting an additional challenge for identification. There is a café on the route which can be used as a rest stop. However please bring a picnic lunch. The weather may be the chief limitation so bring warm rainwear and boots (preferably wellingtons).
Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their Autumn / Winter 2024-5 newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
