Charmy Down

Meet: Layby on Charmy Down side of the junction of the old and new A46, Upper Swainswick, ST761681, Landranger 172/Explorer 155
Focus: Plateau grassland, fungi, butterflies and grasshoppers.
Description: The disused airfield is traditionally managed, and cattle graze each field in turn. As a result there are always ungrazed areas to provide food for grasshoppers and butterflies. We may be lucky enough to see Small Heath, Small Copper and possibly Brown Argus, which have two or more broods a year.
