Leader: Rob Randall
Start: 11:00 Finish: Approx. 15:00
Meet: Brean Down car park. GR ST 297587 Landranger 182 /Explorer 153 (£6 coins or PayByPhone app, free to NT members). An easy route by car is via the A368 and A371 to Weston-super-Mare then the A370 south, turning right for Lympsham and Brean about a mile south of Bleadon. A longer but perhaps faster route is via the M4 and M5 to junction 21 and join the A370 from there.
Focus: Plants of coast and limestone habitats, including local specialities such as White Rockrose. Early butterflies, and birds of coast and scrub.
Description: After an initial climb, walking will mostly be on the level. We will take a break for lunch at the fort, where we will see a range of plants of rocky shores. In sheltered spots on the way back, we will pass large colonies of Horseshoe Vetch and if we are lucky we may spot Adonis Blues. Distance 4-5 km. It is usually windy so come prepared to put on extra layers.

Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their Spring and Summer 2023 newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
