Meet: The Shallows Car Park, Saltford (which can be busy if a hot sunny day). Bus service X39 Bath Bus Station to The Crown Inn, Saltford. GR ST 687673 Landranger 172 / Explorer 155.
Finish: Approx 12:00
Focus: Dragonflies including scarce chaser, white-legged and blue-tailed damselflies. Possible bird sightings include kingfisher and summer migrants, including hirundines, common whitethroat and sedge warbler, which occasionally breed in the area.
Description: Leisurely walk along northern lip of River Avon from The Shallows, Saltford to Kelston Mills on the opposite bank to The Jolly Sailor PH. Level ground but one short steep descent to river bank down uneven steps. Can be very muddy if wet, walking boots recommended.
Additional information: Members have option to independently extend their visit with a walk to The Bath Soft Cheese Cafe in Kelston, but advance booking recommended as the cafe is very popular.
