Leaders: Dave Pole, Andrew Harrison and Alvan White
Bookings: Dave Pole
Start: 10:30
Finish: 15:00 (or earlier)
Meeting place: car park Explorer 155 (ST 687 748), nearest postcode BS30 5LY, what3words: toward.empty.arrive. Heading N on Siston Lane towards Siston, turn R up track by signpost for Overscourt Wood. Room for around 10 cars but the site is well used by dog walkers.
Focus: General interest.
Description: Approximately 3km of moderately hilly but well-made paths. Wildflowers in the unimproved grassland, along with butterflies and other invertebrates. We hope to find a wide range of birds including raptors. An unusual habitat is the uncut, thick and high blackthorn hedges, it is possible that Brown Hairstreak butterflies are breeding on site, although this has not been proved. There are no toilets or other facilities on site. Paths may be muddy following wet weather. Bring a packed lunch and appropriate clothing according to the weather forecast. Stout boots or wellingtons and sticks would be advisable. Also hand sanitiser (plentiful dog mess!) Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their Spring/Summer 2024 newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
