Finish: 15.00 (people can leave earlier if they so wish).
Focus: Ecology of ancient woodland and wet meadows: birds and birdsong, notable plants (including violet helleborine, bird’s nest orchid, saw-wort, betony), butterflies (including silver-washed fritillary, white admiral and possibly green hairstreak) and dragonflies.
Description: Lower Woods is a very extensive area of ancient woodland managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. We will follow well defined woodland paths through coppiced woodland and meadows. There are no stiles or other obstacles, but ground conditions can be very wet and slippery after rain. Walking boots or wellies are recommended. Bring waterproof clothing if appropriate. Be aware that ticks may be present. Estimated walking distance about two miles. Carry a picnic lunch.
